Security-Widefield is located in an area of El Paso County, Colorado known as Fountain Valley. In 1953, Security real estate was developed on top of hay fields and corn and other crops. It was so named to invoke a sense of security for possible residents coming to inhabit Security real estate. Cotton trees were planted along the streets in Security. In 1965, Widefield Homes started developing Widefield real estate that became the City of Widefield.
As of the 2000 census, the total population was 29,845: 79.97% White, 10.54% African-American, 0.81% Native American, 3.06% Asian, 0.56% Pacific Islander, 12.61% Hispanic/Latino, 5.35% from other races and 5.71% from two or more races. Approximately 66.5% of households were made up of married couples living together. The median household income was $48,911; with $51,029 for families, $32,353 for males and $24,684 for females. About 4.9% of families and 6.0% of the population were below the poverty line. |
