The City of Pueblo is located in Pueblo County in southern Colorado. Its location at the junction of Interstate 25 and US Hwy 50 have historically made it a major hub of transportation in Colorado. Because it is located within the "banana belt", Pueblo real estate tends to have a milder climate than other cities in Colorado, with much less snowfall. Pueblo got its "Steel City" nickname because it used to be one of the biggest producers of steel in the country. Nowadays, however, aviation and electronics companies call Pueblo real estate home.

The Pueblo public school system is comprised of two school districts: School District 60 and School District 70. School District 60 and the University of Southern Colorado created the Education Alliance of Pueblo to help the local students get more out of their educational careers in 1991. This included all students, from Kindergarten to college.
Secondary education in Pueblo includes Pueblo Community College, a two-year public college that provides associate degrees and certificates for vocational studies, Colorado State University at Pueblo, a four-year public school offering studies in variety of subjects that include math, social sciences, humanities, chemistry and computers, and the University of Phoenix, offering online courses.
~ Pueblo Chemical Depot
Situated in southeastern Colorado, the US Army Pueblo Chemical Depot was created to safely store and protect over 2600 tons of the national stockpile of mustard agent. They are stored here until they can properly be destroyed and disposed of.
The Department of Defense has concluded that the best form of destruction for these agents is to neutralize them with hot water (which destroys the molecules in the mustard agent). What is left is mostly water and a common biodegradable industrial chemical called thiodiglycol. Microbes are used to eat away the organics in the water/thiodiglycol mixture. This is the same method used in breaking down raw sewage at sewage treatment facilities.
The Pueblo Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) was proposed to help facilitate the destruction of the chemical mustard agent. Its purpose is to provide agent processing, munitions storage, biotreatment, labs and other support tasks. In September 2002, the Bechtel Pueblo Team was awarded the contract to create, construct and close the facility. The Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives program (ACWA) is in charge of the destruction of the mustard agent stockpile and will supervise the contract with Bechtel.
The community is always kept informed of all issues regarding the destruction of these chemical weapons by the Public Affairs Office of the US Army Pueblo Chemical Depot and the Pueblo Chemical Stockpile Outreach Office. They are always willing to answer any questions and provide any information available to the public at any time. They believe it is the public's right to know what is going on in their neighborhood and that all avenues of safety are followed.
~ Pueblo Government
The city of Pueblo is governed under a council-manager system. Seven members are elected to the City Council. They serve four year terms that are staggered between the members so that the council isn't completely re-elected or replaced at the same time. The City Council then employs a City Manager to run the day to day operations of Pueblo. The City Manager in turn hires professional heads of departments to help in managing the services provided to the public by the City.
The Pueblo County Courthouse is comprised of three commissioners that are elected by the public and also serve four year terms that are staggered between them. Each commissioner is in charge of supervising different areas of the services provided by the County. Some of the other elected officials for the County include the district attorney, county sheriff, county coroner, county clerk, assessor and both the county and district judges.
